Govt had sent a letter asking Google to immediately drop all advertising, direct or surrogate, from betting platforms in search results and YouTube.

The Centre directed Google to stop showing betting companies ads for Indian users, the tech giant on Wednesday said it does not allow any advertisements that promote online gambling.

As per reports, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had, last week, sent a letter asking Google to immediately drop all advertising, direct or surrogate, from betting platforms in search results and YouTube.

According to a report by ET, the tech giant has now issued a statement claiming that Google adheres to local Indian laws and does not allow any
online gambling ads on its services. A Google spokesperson has reportedly confirmed that the company doesn’t allow any advertisements that promote online gambling. Google’s ad policies and the applicable local laws and regulations prevent the company from promoting online gambling through its services.

Google spokesperson said.
“Across our ads systems, we have strict policies in place to stop violations, and we take quick action if we are informed about violative ads,” the spokesperson added.
