19, year old Jeremy Lalrinnunga win gave India its fifth medal and second gold at commonwealth games 2022 and set a record at men’s 67kg weightlifting final.  

Lalrinnunga started with 136 kg which he bettered by lifting 140kgs in his next try ( its a first record in game). Then he lifted 160kg in the clean and jerk category, finishing with a combination of 300kg (140kg+160kg=300kg) it’s a another record in CWG. He also attempt third time but get unlucky it did not matter as he already cleared the Clean & Jerk category and reach to the top.

Lalrinnunga sharing his accomplishment on twitter, he wrote: “Lifting three tons over my shoulder wouldn’t have been possible without the strength of my nation backing me. This is gold is just the beginning!”  

The president Droupadi Mumru also congratulates lalrinnunga in his achivement said, “Congratulations, Jeremy Lalrinnunga for winning gold in Weightlifting at #CommonwealthGames. Your self-belief despite injury during the event enabled you to create history & inspire millions. Your podium finish has filled Indians with pride. Wishing you more such moments of glory.” 

Pm Modi also tweeted said, “Our Yuva Shakti is creating history! Congratulations to @raltejeremy, who has won a Gold in his very first CWG and has set a phenomenal CWG record as well. At a young age he’s brought immense pride and glory. Best wishes to him for his future endeavours.”
