Jirang, an area of Odisha, is well-known for its stunning Buddhist monastery. A different name for it is Padma Sambhava Mahavihara. It is Eastern India’s biggest Buddhist monastery. It is situated in the Odisha state’s Chandragiri, Gajapati district.

The Padmasambhava Mahavihara Monastery also known as Thupten Mindolling Monastery, the major Ripa Lineage monastery is situated in Jeerango, Gajapati District, in the Indian state of Odisha. It is reputed to be Eastern India’s biggest Buddhist monastery. The Dalai Lama gave it his blessing in January 2010.

Public transportation by bus is available. The closest city, Berhampur, has buses that travel via Chandragiri from Berhampur to Paralakhemundi. There are local taxis that can take you from Chandragiri to the Monastery. There is a guest house in the monastery premises. With reasonable price you will get all the accomodations.

How to Reach:

The Buddhist site of Chandragiri is located approximately 257 kilometres from Bhubaneswar and 90 km from Brahmpur through Mohana. The Buddhist temple is located 15 miles from Mohana town and 4 km from Chandragiri.

Nearest Railway Station – Brahmpur Railway station
Nearest Bus stand – Mohana Bus stand
You may also take a private taxi. If you are coming from Brahmpur, follow the road through Mohana that leads to Digapahandi. Turn left at the Mohana town entrance, then continue 18 kilometres to Chandragiri.

Jiranga is surrounded by a sizable forest, and there is a Lord Ram Temple and a little waterfall outside the temple called “Khasada Waterfall.” Outside of the complex, there is a canteen.

The monastery looks beautiful. The garden is also well-kept and consistently maintained, which enhances the area’s beauty and allure.
